New Health Coverage for Adults Beginning in 2019
Virginia’s Medicaid Program is rolling out new health coverage for adults. This program aims to be of good quality and low-cost for adults ages 19-64. This new healthcare coverage offers doctor, hospital, and emergency services including; primary, specialty, and preventative care; prescription drugs and medical supplies; lab and x-ray services; maternity and newborn care; home health services; behavioral health services, rehabilitative services, family planning services and more. You will not be denied coverage if you have a pre-existing condition, but there are some requirements that must be met in order for you to receive these benefits. Some of the requirements to enroll are; Virginia residency, ineligibility for Medicare, and specific income requirements. These income requirements vary by household size. For example, a family size of 2 must make less than $22,715 annually, and a family size of 6 must make less than $46,562 annually. This new coverage will begin January 1, 2019, but you can begin to apply for it now! Once enrollment begins, you will be provided a list of plans that will include the health insurance company that will coordinate your care. The insurance providers offered may or may not be acceptable at your current doctor’s office, so you must check with your doctors to see if they participate in one or more of the offered plans.
